"Buy land; they're not making it anymore," Mark Twain famously advised investors.

In December 2013, my wife and I bought 5 acres of land in Germantown. In a few years, we hope to be able to build a new house here for our family.

The land is located in Germantown, just east of US-41 between Holy Hill Rd. and Freistadt Rd., and directly north of Homestead Hollow County Park.

Here is a map of the lot location. The green circle is the new lot, and the purple circle (bottom right) is where we currently live.

The lot is located in the Isabelle Farms subdivision. Click Here to view the subdivision website.

A few years ago this was farmland. The original subdivision developer went under and now the bank owns all of the remaining lots.

We purchased Lot #11, shown below, which is located on Prairie Ridge Ct. (Click the image to view the full lot map)

While it is good to have land, 5 acres is quite a lot. Fortunately, we will be able to designate a portion of the lot to use for our house and lawn; the rest can be left to grow naturally.

We like that this lot is close to our current house, Elliot's school, US-41, and is in between many communities, such as Mequon, West Bend, and the Brookfield area.

Interestingly, if you head due west from this lot, you will run into both Holy Hill and the Erin Hills Golf Course.

There are more lots for sale; come and buy one!
